This multimode OM1 mode conditioning fiber cable is designed to convert a singlemode signal to a multimode fiber, so it can accurately send data through a multimode network. These cables are particularly useful in Gigabit Ethernet 1000Base-LX (1300nm wavelength) applications and serve as replacements for standard equipment-to-cable plant patch cords, commonly used between devices such as routers and switches.

Mode conditioning cables are essential in environments where differential mode delay (DMD) can impact performance. DMD arises when long-wave transceivers transmit signals over multimode fiber, potentially causing signal distortion and reducing transmission distance. Mode conditioning cables mitigate this issue by intentionally offsetting the alignment between the singlemode fiber core and the multimode fiber. This alignment technique minimizes modal dispersion, significantly reducing bit error rates and enhancing signal integrity over extended distances.

Each mode conditioning cable features a singlemode/multimode hybrid leg that must always connect directly to the the equipment side. The duplex multimode side is then connected to the cable plant. This configuration ensures optimal signal transition and compatibility between network components.

Fibertronics Inc. offers mode conditioning patch cables in a variety of connector configurations, including LC, SC, and ST, on either or both ends. Cables are available in multiple standard lengths, and custom options can be made to order to meet your unique network specifications.

These cables are typically deployed in pairs—one at each end of the link—to ensure proper signal alignment throughout the connection. If you have custom design requirements or specific deployment needs, we encourage you to reach out through our Contact Us page to speak with one of our knowledgeable sales representatives for expert assistance and tailored solutions.
