A fiber optic splitter functions by dividing the fiber optic light into multiple segments based on a specific ratio. For instance, when light is transmitted through a 1X4 equal ratio splitter, it splits into four equal parts, with each segment representing 1/4 or 25% of the original light source. Unlike Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM), which separates different wavelength fiber optic light into distinct channels, fiber optic splitters distribute light power across various channels.
Splitters are typically available in 900µm loose tube and 250µm bare fiber configurations. 1x2 and 2x2 couplers are standardly equipped with protective metal sleeves to shield the split. For higher output counts, a protective box is utilized to safeguard the splitting components.
