The Fibertronics, Inc. Fiber Ring OTDR launch cable connects the optical time domain reflectometer to the link-under-test and relays insertion loss and reflectance of the near-end connection. This helps to avoid variations in loss and distance measurements when testing. The launch fiber cable helps to negate blind spots or the Dead Zones of an optical time domain reflectometer which occurs when there is high launch power or faults near the launch end of the fiber.

Optical time domain reflectometers are used to measure fiber length and overall optical attenuation within a circuit.  It also measures total insertion-loss including splices and mated connectors. In addition, it can be used to locate faults or broken fibers (micro bends) in the cable routing.

The optical time domain reflectometer features four optical ports to realize the built-in optical power meter and visual fault locator (VFL), singlemode and multimode testing functions (types can be changed as needed to make it ideal for the cleaning of the optical fiber end faces).

The Optical Time Domain Reflectometer has an abundant number of external ports to externally connect a USB and printers which allows data communication with PCs by two different USB ports. Test results can be stored internally and on an SD card via the SD port. It makes use of a lithium battery with a large capacity allowing for up to 8 hours of use, making it suitable for long-time outdoor work.
